Getting There/Where to stay

Longreach is about 1000 kms North West of Brisbane, or about 700 kms due West of Rockhampton.

Driving is of course an option and probably one that most will take. For those that don’t know, most of the roads to Longreach from the South, East and North are sealed. Those coming from further West....well, you know what the roads are like!

Longreach has an airport and daily flights to and from Brisbane airport. Qantas is the carrier and flights can of course be found and booked at www.qantas.com  

Greyhound Australia runs a coach service to Longreach. Available from Brisbane, Rockhampton, Emerald, and a host of other towns. Your best bet, check them out at www.greyhound.com.au for routes, timetables and fares. Greyhound Australia has also donated some travel tickets as part of minor placing prizes.

Queensland Rail also offers a service to Longreach. Unfortunately this is a little reliant on weather patterns in the area at the time. This can be checked out at http://www.traveltrain.com.au/Train-Services/Spirit-Of-The-Outback/Timetables/Westbound.aspx  It’s certainly not the fastest way to Longreach, but will most definitely add to the experience!
